Over five days, we’ll explore the best that London theatre has to offer, seeing five shows as part of an itinerary curated by Round House executive leadership. You’ll get to meet with and hear interviews from London theatremakers while enjoying private tours and behind-the-scenes access. After each performance, gather for post-show cocktails to discuss that evening’s show – often the most enlightening and best part of the trip!
Once again, we’ll stay in the South Bank area of London at the luxury Sea Containers London hotel, voted a 2022 Reader’s Choice Award winner by Condé Nast Traveller. Its prime location along the River Thames is walking distance to great theatre, including the celebrated National Theatre, as well as top London attractions, including Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, St. Paul's Cathedral, and Covent Garden. Best of all, Sea Containers offers a posh, spacious private apartment for intimate post-show discussions.
This London Tour promises to be our most exciting yet, and you won’t want to miss it.
Participants in the first week of the tour (October 7 – 12) will see The Land of the Living, a new play at the National Theatre. Juliet Stevenson is Ruth in this remarkable and timely new play by David Lan, former Artistic Director of the Young Vic. Immersed in the shapeshifting nature of memory and morality, it’s directed by Stephen Daldry (The Jungle, The Inheritance).
Germany, 1945. Thomas, one of thousands of children stolen by the Nazis from Eastern Europe during WWII, is under the care of Ruth, a UN relief worker. Should she try to find his parents or leave him with those he’s grown up with? The choice she makes will shape his life. London, 1990. Years later, Thomas visits Ruth. As they untangle the past, the decisions Ruth made as a very young woman are called powerfully into question.
Week Two of the tour (October 14 – 19) will feature Superwoman Schema at the Bush Theatre. Starring celebrated actors Golda Rosheuvel (Bridgerton) and Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Superwoman Schema is a world premiere production from Emma Dennis-Edwards, directed by Bush Artistic Director, Lynette Linton (Shifters).
In the aftermath of the death of their matriarch, Joyce and her daughter Erica struggle with what to do next. She was the glue that held everything together, so what now? Joyce thought she’d set Erica up for a better life, given her everything she never had. But Erica wonders if despite the therapy, the journalling, the recycling – maybe she is no different from her mum after all. Or her mum’s mum. Maybe they didn’t break the cycle. Maybe the cycle can never be broken.
